According to a recent article published by the Financial Times, representatives for The Beatles are currently in talks with both Mtv Games and Activision with the goal of bringing the Fab Four’s vast catalog of music to video game industry. Read More…
Rock Band 2 is coming, even if Harmonix doesn’t want you to know yet. The evidence to support the fact is growing daily and the latest smoking gun in the case comes from our good friends at Joystiq.
Discovered in the obituary from the recently passed musical genius Bo Diddley, it was announced that Bo Diddley has been working with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons to create the Billy-Bo-Jupiter Thunderbird guitar for Gretsch guitars. The Billy-Bo-Jupitor Thunderbird guitar was based on Bo’s classic Gretsch Jupiter Thunderbird and according to the obituary it will be featured in the “impending” Rock Band 2.
If Harmonix is waiting until E3 to make the announcement on Rock Band 2, I’m sure that July can’t come soon enough for them. Otherwise, at the rate that leaks have been appearing for the game, they won’t have anything left to announce.
Thanks to a tipster at Joystiq, box art concepts for Rock Band 2 were revealed in an online survey posted by Listen Research. The survey displayed the two box art images and asked the following questions:
- Indicate which of the two covers below would attract you more if you were shopping for a new game in a store.
- Indicate which game box cover you believe is a better fit with the description of the game.
The description of the game in the survey was as follows:
“Rock Band 2 lets you and your friends play as a virtual 4-person band, in person or online, to rock out to some of the biggest rock anthems from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. Rock Band 2 will be a full featured sequel, similar to full featured sequels you see released by other big video game franchises, such as Need for Speed, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, or Halo. In the music/rhythm genre, it is similar to the feature jumps made from Guitar Hero I to Guitar Hero II or Guitar Hero II to Guitar Hero III.”
And here are the concept images:

I was also asked to participate in the same survey, but unfortunately they thought I was too old. So, it appears that Rock Band is getting closer to being announced day by day.

According to Toki Post, at the ”Xbox 360 Presents Rock Band Live” event in France this weekend, Maxïmo Park frontman Paul Smith, who was a judge at the event, is known to be a big fan of Rock Band.
While talking about the game, he let it slip that their song “Girls Who Play Guitars” from their album “Our Earthly Pleasures” will be available for download from the Rock Band store on June 10th.
“We have an Xbox 360 with Rock Band installed in our rehearsal studio in Newcastle and it’s great for thrashing out some amazing songs,” explains Paul. “We can’t wait until our fans can do the same with Girls Who Play Guitars.”
Until this is confirmed by Harmonix, this is classified as a rumor, though it sounds pretty legit to me. Hopefully we’ll see a Brit Rock Pack next week that includes some more similar bands like the Arctic Monkeys and the Kaiser Chiefs.
We are Devo! According to Devo founder Mark Mothersbaugh, three Devo tracks are making their way to Rock Band. Appearing on G4’s X-Play, Mark stated that they re-recorded their song “Through Being Cool” for the game and that two other unannounced songs would also be making an appearance.
No other details, such as what the other two tracks are or when they’d be released were given, and Harmonix has been silent on the issue as usual. However, If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on “Whip It” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” being what the other released tracks will be.
Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz recently posted on his Twitter account that they are currently mixing their song “Sorrow” to appear in Rock Band 2. This is the second band to confirm that their songs are going to appear in the unannounced 2nd release of Rock Band.
While it’s great to see more bands state that they are working on songs for Rock Band and also great to see more modern punk bands get in on the act, it would be nice to hear some type of word from Harmonix on the mythical Rock Band 2.
California punk band Pennywise played this weekend at KROQ’s annual Weenie Roast y Fiesta concert along with Metallica, The Offspring, Bad Religion, Atreyu and others. For the concerts program, each band was asked six questions with one of them being “Guitar Hero or Rock Band?” Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge stated that they preferred Rock Band since one of their songs is on it.
Well, seeing as how there isn’t a Pennywise song available on the disc or been available for download yet from the Rock Band store, one would have to imagine that they are going to be featured in a future DLC pack or in the rumored Rock Band 2 release. Since there is no concrete information on RB2, I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that Pennywise will be coming to a “Modern Punk Pack” sometime in the near future.
During a recent interview with nationally syndicated radio show “The Tour Bus” Testament lead singer Chuck Billy let it slip that two Testament tracks will be featured in the “next” Rock Band. The two songs mentioned were “Electric Crown” from “The Ritual” album released in 1992 and the title track from the “Souls of Black” album released in 1990.
Once again, Harmonix has been silent on the issue and is providing no details. Also, it’s hard to tell if Chuck was letting it slip that Rock Band 2 is in the works or if he was just confused on how the DLC process works. Either way, it’s great to see some more classic metal making it’s way to Rock Band.
If you can’t get enough of “Timmy & The Lords Of The Underworld” or are dying to play Cartman’s version of “Come Sail Away” then you wishes might be coming true as tvshowsondvd claims that the upcoming dvd release of South Park Season 11 will include a Rock Band three pack of bonus songs when released on August 12th.
For the first time ever on DVD, every episode is UNCENSORED! While supplies last, every DVD will include a 3-song download pack for the MTV Games sensation ROCK BAND!”
Of course, details are pretty much non-existent and there hasn’t been any word from Harmonix on this, but since they haven’t mentioned anything official about the Disturbed pack, that doesn’t surprise me. Still, I’m curious what songs will be available. Let me know your thoughts.

While perusing the website of a particular retail gamestore
, I happened to notice that they were selling what appears to be an officially licensed Rock Band Drum Silencer package. It looks like they will be available for purchase on May 12th for $19.99 from your favorite retailers.
At first glance, it appears that the official Rock Band Drum Silencers are similar to the Foam & Felt mod. However, we really won’t know what they are made of until they are released as PDP aka Pelican and Harmonix have not released any information on it what so ever.
