Failing a third of the way into the song I’m sure that they felt quite ashamed that they couldn’t even beat their own song in a video game.
Well this week, the rapper Nas, who happens to be a pretty good Guitar Hero/Rock Band player, was on the show and the fine folks at the Colbert Report thought it would be a good idea to see how well he could handle “Tom Sawyer”.
Check out his performance in the video below:
Hopefully Rush won’t see this video!

We’re definitely excited to be a part of things”
“I’m practicing my Rock Band drumming,” deadpanned Dashboard Confessional singer Chris Carrabba, “With any luck I’ll win a spot on stage to show what I can REALLY do.”

About the Artists
Panic At The Disco released their sophomore album, Pretty Odd, on March 25, 2008 through Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen. While the album is equally as catchy and infectious as their debut, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, the new album was created as an expansive pop album that channels the ghosts of Brian Wilson, The Beatles and The Zombies. The band’s previous album sold over 2.2 million copies, and their single “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” became a #1 hit on MTV, snagging the Best Video award in 2006.
Dashboard Confessional, led by critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Chris Carrabba, has had three consecutive gold records – The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most (2001), A Mark A Mission A Brand A Scar (2003), and Dusk and Summer (2006). The band toured with U2 and wrapped up their last headline run in 2006 with a sold out Madison Square Garden show. They are putting the finishing touches on a new album, which was produced by Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger.
Joining Panic at the Disco and Dashboard Confessional are very special guests Plain White T’s and The Cab. Plain White T’s are about to release Big Bad World the highly anticipated follow-up to the band’s platinum-plus-selling breakthrough release Every Second Counts. On the strength of mega-hit single “Hey There Delilah,” which rocketed to No. 1 in 10 countries and was the fourth song in history to sell over 3 million digital downloads, Every Second Counts sold over a million and a half copies worldwide and earned the Chicago quintet not one, but two Grammy nominations. The Cab are the next up-and-coming band that will soon become a household name. They released their debut album, Whisper War, on April 29th through Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen.
Before recently appearing on the Colbert Report, rock stars Rush had a chance to sit down with Rock Band and get a chance to see how well they could do playing their own song in a video game.

In the latest episode of A&E’s television show “Gene Simmons Family Jewels”, Rock Band makes an appearance as Gene and members of KISS try to take down Gene’s son and friends in a best score competition.
As it turns out, the kids own Gene and KISS. Just because you wrote the song doesn’t necessarily mean that you can play the game well.
Hopefully this is an indication that there will be more KISS in Rock Bands future.

The Ion Drum set featured in the latest issue of GameInformer, known as the Ion Drum Rocker, is set to be released in early September, but you can actually pre-order a set now. That is if the price doesn’t scare you away. Coming in at a paltry $299.99 the Ion Drum Rocker is one of the most expensive game accessories to ever hit the market. However, When you consider that it’s actually a real electronic drum set minus the brains, aka the scarecrow of electronic drums, it’s not that bad of a deal.
For more details and pictures of the Ion Drum Rocker or to place your pre-order, check out the official site for the drums at drumrocker.com.
Konami is suing Harmonix for patent infringement over a series of game-related patents, according to the reliable Bloomberg news. Saying Rock Band violates their patents, and is demanding compensation, imagine that, and an order that would “block Viacom and Harmonix from using the inventions.”
Konami once considered a pioneer in the music-game genre, now considered a has-been, with its GuitarFreaks and DrumMania games, were available years before Guitar Hero was released, but failed to realize the potential market for these games in the West so they were only released in Asia. Konami is trying to return to the genre with its upcoming Rock Revolution game, which allows players to perform songs on guitar and drum peripherals.
Whats really funny about this lawsuit is that when Konami sought to bring karaoke games to home consoles, it turned to Harmonix.
Harmonix is starting to roll out the details on Rock Band 2 prior to the start of E3 next week and we can’t be more excited. Besides confirming once again that all previously bought DLC tracks from Rock Band will transfer to Rock Band 2, it now appears that they’ve confirmed the long standing rumor that Rock Band on-disc songs will also transfer to Rock Band 2.
That’s a crapload of songs!
If you haven’t seen the features or the Officially announced tracks, be sure to hit the jump.
