But you have to be fast, as these will go fast.

Konami, who previously dominated the rhythm game genre with DDR, is feeling a little left out with Guitar Hero and Rock Band completely controlling the genre now.  Now wanting in on the action, they announced Rock Revolution at Konami Gamer’s Night 2008.  Rock Revolution will be released this Fall on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and DS and is being developed by Zoë Mode, who also developed SingStar.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will feature:

  • 40 Tracks on disc
  • Future DLC plans
  • Online Co-op, Versus, and Battle of the Bands modes
  • “Jam Session” recordings of your own songs
  • 6 pad Drum set with quiet pads and kick pedal
  • No Singing

The Nintendo versions will have unique gameplay additions due to the nature of the gaming systems themselves.  The Wii version will use the Wiimote and Nunchuk for some hot “air guitar” action and the DS version will include a “vocalist”  mode using the built-in microphone.

While you really can’t say that Konami is jumping on the Rock Rhythm Game bandwagon, since they essentially invented it with Guitar Freaks, it does seem like they might be coming to the show a little late.  I mean, c’mon Konami, you’ve had since the original Guitar Hero was released to bring the Guitar Freaks/Rock Revolution series to the West.  Instead, they waited until the Guitar Hero series is in it’s fourth incarnation and Rock Bands possibly second to even try to get into the game.

From what I’ve seen so far, it doesn’t look like Activision or Harmonix have much to worry about in terms of losing sales to Konami, especially if the instruments needed for all three games are incompatable.

Playstation 3 owners of Rock Band were met with an exclusive patch to download today.  While this may not be the long awaited for “Les Paul” patch, here’s what Harmonix’s John had to say about the fantastic 1.04 patch:

The 1.04 Rock Band update is a PS3 only update that allows us to work around a size limitation for categories in the in-game commerce library.

short answer: nothing really changes that you will be aware of – it’s a change that helps us and barely anything has changed.

So, there it is folks. Nothing to see here, move along.

The Nyko FrontMan PS3 wireless guitar, announced at CES 2008, seems like it could be the answer to many PS3 Rock Band and Guitar Hero players prayers by officially supporting both Rock Band and GH III on the Playstation 3.

Originally scheduled to be released in March, with dates ranging from March 17th at Gamestop to March 25th at Amazon, it now appears that it has been delayed to sometime in April according to the Nyko website.

Hopefully it’s only a small delay so PS3 players can finally start to play with a full Rock Band band and also play some local multiplayer Guitar Hero with only having to purchase one additional guitar instead of two.

UPDATE: It now appears that GameStop has made the delay even greater by changing the release date to 05/12/2008
