It appears that the first 3rd party instruments for Rock Band are going to be available for purchase starting next week (June 22nd). Mad Catz was given the official stamp of approval from Harmonix to become the officially licensed 3rd party manufacturer of instrument controllers for Rock Band, and it looks like their wired Bass controller for the Xbox 360 is the first out of the gate.
[EDIT] The product links have been removed from Amazon, but we’ve still got all the details here.
The solo buttons on the Rock Band Stratocaster controller are a great addition to “rhythm game” controllers. However, they can be difficult to use during gameplay, especially if you have large hands. Wouldn’t it be great if you were able to use the standard fret buttons to act just like the solo buttons, ie no strumming during solo sections or Big Rock Endings? The Guitar Hero III wireless Les Paul controller is, in my opinion, the best guitar controller on the market and is what I use as my primary guitar for Rock Band. While this mod currently applies only to Xbox 360 Rock Band players, it’s still applicable to both the 360 and PS3 versions of the GH III wireless Les Paul controller. The Wii version, for what ever reason, doesn’t seem to be afflicted with this problem. Read More…
The Nyko FrontMan PS3 wireless guitar, announced at CES 2008, seems like it could be the answer to many PS3 Rock Band and Guitar Hero players prayers by officially supporting both Rock Band and GH III on the Playstation 3.
Originally scheduled to be released in March, with dates ranging from March 17th at Gamestop to March 25th at Amazon
, it now appears that it has been delayed to sometime in April according to the Nyko website.
Hopefully it’s only a small delay so PS3 players can finally start to play with a full Rock Band band and also play some local multiplayer Guitar Hero with only having to purchase one additional guitar instead of two.
UPDATE: It now appears that GameStop has made the delay even greater by changing the release date to 05/12/2008
