Mad Catz Rock Band Bass ControllerIt appears that the first 3rd party instruments for Rock Band are going to be available for purchase starting next week (June 22nd).  Mad Catz was given the official stamp of approval from Harmonix to become the officially licensed 3rd party manufacturer of instrument controllers for Rock Band, and it looks like their wired Bass controller for the Xbox 360 is the first out of the gate.

I think just about everyone can agree that one of the most annoying parts of Rock Band is the noise that the drums make.  There has been a multitude of mods created for the sole purpose of silencing the drums, some of which are featured on this site, and Harmonix has decided to remedy the situation by releasing official drum silencers. While perusing the website of a particular retail gamestore, I happened to notice that they were selling what appears to be an officially licensed Rock Band Drum Silencer package.  It looks like they will be available for purchase on May 12th  for $19.99 from your favorite retailers.

At first glance, it appears that the official Rock Band Drum Silencers are similar to the Foam & Felt mod.  However, we really won’t know what they are made of until they are released as PDP aka Pelican and Harmonix have not released any information on it what so ever. 

Drum mutes have been keeping parents and neighbors of drummers happy since they first hit the market.  Since the biggest complaint about Rock Band, well besides faulty hardware, is the noise that the drums make, I thought it would be good to see how drum mutes designed for a real drum set would work on their virtual counterparts. The Foam and Felt drum silencing mod is one of the first mods created in order to help dampen the “clacking” noise that the stock Rock Band drum pads create when played.  This mod is also one of the easiest to create and least expensive to implement.
